Picnic Frock GIVEAWAY!!!!
Adventures in beginning purse making...
A few months ago my mom gave me a really nice sewing machine. I hadn't really sewn since my high school home ec class but I thought what the heck I'll give it a shot!
So far I've made some really cute little doggy coats that turned out great! (I promise I'll post the tut soon!)
But what I've really wanted to make is purses! I absolutely love all the great handmade purses I see on Etsy and being the delusional freak that I am I thought.....I can totally make one of those!
About three weeks ago I went to Hobby Lobby and picked out some great fabrics and was determined to make myself some cute purses. I also bough a (supposedly) super easy 1-2-3 Sew book with a great little bag pattern in it. The sales lady even told me that she recommended this pattern for beginners so I was all excited about my soon to be cute purses....I went home and right away pulled out my new book to find the purse pattern. It said I had to enlarge it to 185% for it to be the right size. Easy right? uhhhhh..........OK I admit I'm not the most technologically advanced so instead I just had my boyfriend (who's much better at drawing than me) just draw me the pattern on newspaper about the size I wanted it.I then cut out the pattern and one piece of fabric
And then the fear set in. You sewers know what I'm talking about......when you put off making something because you're afraid you'll screw it up so it just sits there.....
Finally this morning after I got off work I decided I would go ahead and bite the bullet. I was on a mission. I cut and sewn like there was no tomorrow. I got everything sewn together and pulled the fabric through the little hole to turn it right-side out. I admired the perfect shape of the bag and congratulated myself on the super cute fabric that I had chosen.
And then I noticed something weird.........there was no opening in the bag! I thought maybe I had pulled it out wrong when I turned it right side out so I turned it back. Nope! Maybe it was just the fact that it was my first pillow or maybe it was the fact that I decided to attempt it after working all night but I had some how sewn the top of my purse completely shut!
To my utter horror I had just spend 4 hours making a very complicated purse shaped pillow!! Ugh!

Thrifty Fun!
I love learning new and easy ways to do things! As you can see from my bonanzle site I really like making soaps and have been looking into making some other bath and beauty type products.
I subscribe to a newsletter called thrifty fun which always has some great projects, that are sent in from other readers, that for the most part are pretty easy to do and easy on your wallet. You can also send them things you want to learn and readers will send in tips to help! How cool is that?
Today's tip was how to make bath salts for mother's day. What busy mom wouldn't like a good long soak? But with today's economy this is a luxury item that many of us can no longer afford to buy.
Here's how to make it yourself and for cheap!
Approximate Time: Less than 1 hour
Supplies:
1 cup Epsom salt
1/2 cup baking soda
10 drops essential oil
food coloring
clear bottle with lid
funnel
spoon
small bowl
white card stock
foam or silk flower
pen
scrap piece of ribbon
Instructions:Stir together salt, soda, and oil in a small bowl. Add some food coloring and mix well. (Make several different colors and layer them in a bottle, if desired.) Use a funnel to pour the salt into a clear decorative bottle.
Create a gift card using card stock decorated with a flower.
Attach it to the bottle with ribbon with the following instructions: Pour 2 or 3 tablespoons into running bath water to make skin feel smooth and soft.

I'm totally going to try this! I'll post and let you know how I do. Let me know if you try it!

Biggest Loser
Did anyone watch tonight??? Absolutely amazing! Who would have thought at the beginning of this season that any of those people could run a marathon??
Who ever does the casting for this show does an awesome job. There's four people left and each one has a truly inspiring story.
There's Tara (the former model) who has lost the most amount of weight of any woman in the history of the show and the highest weight loss percentage of anyone man or woman!
Helen is the oldest female to ever make it to the final 3 and has lost 103lbs!
Finally, there is Mike and Ron who are father and son. One of them won't make it to the final round, which one is decided by going to NBC's website and voting. Mike is the son and he's lost the most weight of anyone in the history of the biggest loser and is half of the only couple still together at the ranch. Ron is Mike's dad and will do just about anything to see his son win. They both had to make a video supposed to be saying why America should vote for them to stay and Ron's video was all about how everyone should vote for Mike. Absolutely amazing...
Season finale is next Tuesday and I know that I'll be tuning in!
